Delphine Boel
Anglo-Belgian artist Delphine Boël has earned a voice in the European contemporary art world as a non-conformist statement artist and colourist. Her artworks have served as her voice in responding to the often difficult political and social circumstances she was born into. In the words of the artist, “my work is happy-sadness. I transform hurtful and unfortunate experiences into something positive.” Delphine’s work is capable of lovingly inspiring the dispossessed, while at the same time gently bringing the powerful and prideful back to reality. She invites the viewer to follow her thoughts via her playful use of vibrant colours and unvarnished, blunt words. Her use of sarcasm, humour, and cheery colours helps to unleash the irony inherent in her messages.

Recently I have transformed some of my artworks into silk shawls. I’ve often wanted to take my paintings off the walls and wrap them around myself like a protective armour or a security blanket. I enjoy the way that silk perfectly absorbs my colour selection and even reveals my original brush strokes.
When my shawls are folded and worn around the neck one can enjoy the abstract blending of words and colours. When the shawl is opened, the message is fully revealed. Each shawl comes with a “Certificate of Authenticity” similar to my original artworks. My combination of colours and statements can embolden both women and men.
